is a set of freely available simulators in the area of engineering cybernetics (in a broad sense). KYBSIM is produced by TechTeach.

KYBSIM is based on:

  • Interactivity between the user and the program (the lab)
  • Real-time simulations, which means that the responses are calculated and plotted on the screen in real time.
  • Immediate graphical responses (e.g. animations) as a result of the user's parameter adjustments - just as in a real lab!
  • Prepared exercises with detailed instructions with focus on the main points

which hopefully makes KYBSIM an effective learning tool.

On the homepage of KYBSIM you will find links to the homepage of each of the simulators. These homepages contains background information about the system to be which is simulated, and suggested exercises. The simulators can of course be used independent of there exercises.

KYBSIM is being developed by me (Finn Haugen), and it is under continual development. Please do not hesitate to send me suggestions for improvements and new simulators (e-mail: finn@techteach.no).

The simulators are developed in LabVIEW (version 7.1), which is produced by National Instruments. The simulators can be used without LabVIEW being installed, but in that case the feely available LabVIEW Run-Time Engine must be installed. Here you can find more information about the technical requirements for running KYBSIM-simulators, including the Internet address (URL) to the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine.

The following text-books describes the theoretical basis for using the simulators: Dynamic systems - modeling, analysis and simulation and PID Control (to appear in summer 2004), published by Tapir Academic Publisher. (Many of the simulators are used in examples in the above mentioned books, but KYBSIM can be used independent of these books.)

Thanks to

National Instruments in Norway for giving me free access to LabVIEW while developing KYBSIM.

Rights

TechTeach has exclusive rights to KYBSIM. The simulators can be used freely by individuals and students and pupils in courses which do not have any fee. The simulators can, after agreement with TechTeach (which may result in a small payment to TechTeach), be used also in internal courses in companies, and in courses with fees.
